HOW IPHONE CHANGED OUR LIVES

On June 28, 2007, Nokia was the top selling mobile-phone company in the world, people stopped working when they left their computers, Android phones didn't exist, and high-powered executives were addicted to thumbing on their BlackBerrys.

At $600, it was a luxury item at first. But five years later, the phone's dramatic impact can be seen in our daily lives, schools, factories and boardrooms. To date, more than 217 million iPhones have been sold, and they're being used by construction workers to read blueprints, doctors to diagnose patients, governments to improve services and parents to quiet their kids in restaurants.
To ring in its 5th birthday, here are five ways the iPhone has made a mark on the world.

A new way of interacting with computers
In 2007, we were a nation of skilled texters, banging out OMG-filled coded messages at lightning speeds on numerical keypads and physical keyboards. The iPhone was lacking either of those, instead offering a nothing-but-screen keyboard.
It was a classic Apple move toward dead-simple usability, and it helped bring a slice of computing to a whole new audience, including technophobes, kids, senior citizens and people with visual or hearing impairments.

Suddenly, users could navigate their phones with a few swipes of the finger. Kids intuitively seemed to know how to use it. And the phone ushered in a new wave of touchscreen devices.

After the hefty price tag, the lack of a physical keyboard was the first complaint many reviewers lodged against the iPhone. It didn't scare off consumers, though, and Apple sold a million iPhones in less than three months. Typing speeds on the iPhone still may not rival a pair of BlackBerry thumbs at their peak, but predictive-text software, spell check and, later, cut and paste have made it a usable alternative.

In October, Apple tried to shake up input again with the introduction of the Siri voice-assistant feature. The voice-recognition technology encouraged users to speak commands and questions instead of of tapping them in on the screen.

Unapomwachia mpenzi wako password yako anaweza kuingia kwenye barua

THIS IS FACEBOOK

Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over  500 milioni users.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. It was a huge hit: in 2 weeks, half of the schools in the Boston area began demanding a Facebook network. Zuckerberg immediately recruited his friends Dustin Moskoyitz and Chris Hughes to help build Facebook, and within four months, Facebook added 30 more college networks.

The original idea for the term Facebook came from Zuckerberg’s high school (Phillips Exeter Academy). The Exeter Face Book was passed around to every student as a way for students to get to know their classmates for the following year. It was a physical paper book until Zuckerberg brought it to the internet.

With this success, Zuckerberg, Moskowitz and Hughes moved out to Palo Alto for the summer and rented a sublet. A few weeks later, Zuckerberg ran into the former cofounder of Napster,Sean Parkerr. Parker soon moved in to Zuckerberg’s apartment and they began working together. Parker provided the introduction to their first investor,Peter Thiel, cofounder of PayPall and managing partner of  The Founders Fund. Thiel invested $500,000 into Facebook.

With millions more users,Friendster attempted to acquire the company for $10 million in mid 2004. Facebook turned down the offer and subsequently received $12.7 million in funding from Accel Partners, at a valuation of around $ 100 million. Facebook continued to grow, opening up to high school students in September 2005 and adding an immensely popular photo sharing feature the next month. The next spring, Facebook received $25 million in funding from Greylock Partners and Meritech Capital, as well as previous investors Accel Partners and Peter Thiel. The pre-money valuation for this deal was about $525 million. Facebook subsequently opened up to work networks, eventually amassing over 20,000 work networks. Finally in September 2006, Facebook opened to anyone with an email address.

In the summer of 2006,Yahoo attempted to acquire the company for $1 billion dollars.Reports actually indicated that Zuckerberg made a verbal agreement to sell Facebook to Yahoo. A few days later when Yahoo’s stock price took a dive, the offer was lowered to $800 million and Zuckerberg walked away from the deal. Yahoo later offered $1 billion again, this time Zuckerberg turned Yahoo down and earned instant notoriety as the “kid” who turned down a billion. This was not the first time Zuckerberg turned down an acquisition offer;Viacom had previously unsuccessfully  attempted to acquire the company for $750 million in March, 2006.

One sour note for Facebook has been the controversty with social network ConnectU. The founders of ConnectU, former classmates of Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard, allege that Zuckerberg stole their original source code for Facebook. The ordeal has gone to court, and has now been resolved.

Notwithstanding this lingering controversy, Facebook’s growth in the fall of 2007 was staggering. Over 1 million new users signed up every week, 200,000 daily, totaling over 50 million active users. Facebook received 40 billion page views a month. Long gone were the days of Facebook as a social network for college students. 11% of users are over the age of 35, and the fastest growing demographic is users over 30. Facebook has also seen huge growth internationally; 15% of the user base is in Canada. Facebook users’passion or addiction, to the site is unparalleled: more than half use the product every single day and users spend an average of 19 minutes a day on Facebook. Facebook is 6th most trafficked site in the US and top photo sharing site with 4.1 bilion photos uploaded.

Based on these types of numbers,Microsoft invested $240 million into Facebook for 1.6 percent of the company in October 2007. This meant a valuation of over $15 billion, making Facebook the 5th most valuable US Internet Company, yet with only $150 million in annual revenue. Many explained Microsoft’s decision as being solely driven by the desire to outbid Google.

Facebook’s competitors include My Space, Bebo,Frindster,LinkedIn, Tagged,Hi5, Piczo, and Open Social..

Here are Free facebook application that you can use to make money with facebook!

1. Radical Buy This is almost like a Facebook made eBay. You can sell anything on your Facebook page using this unique app. List an item and have it visible to all Facebook users instantly. Now, the cool think is that you can offer commission to others who will sell your items on their Facebook page, allowing you to reach more potential buyers. Of course that means, even if you don’t have any item for sale, you can show other peoples item on your Facebook page and make money with the commission you get for selling there stuff..

2. My Merch Store If you have red my 9 Website To Make Money With By Designing & Selling … article, then you know about Zazzle. Well, now Zazzel allows you to create and design any product on their site(which is free) and sell them on your face book. You can also sell product created by other artists and earn a commission on those. So, even if you don’t want to deal with designing, you have a way to make money on face book using Zazzle.

4. Ether Ether is a website that you can make money on by giving advice to people over the phone or by chatting. But now, you can use their new application on Facebook to make money while giving advice to people over the phone. If you’re good at giving advice, this may be the way for you to make some extra money on Facebook. Also if you know a second language, this app makes it easy to teach others and make money. You set the rates and Ether provides a number that individuals can call. The call will then be forwarded to your personal telephone number.

5. Music Blaster With MusicBlaster you can put a simple little music store on your Facebook, and sell music from BlastMyMusic.com. You earn 5% for each song sold. The cool think about this app is the fact that you can help your favorite band or singer to sell their music while you make money, as well as helping them to gain more exposure.

6. Garage Sale The name says it all, its the good old Garage Sale, but a “Facebooky” Garage Sale. Simply add Garage Sale to your profile page and list every thing you want to sell. When someone buys something, Garage Sale automatically bills the buyer’s credit card and lets you when to ship the item. Your money is deposited directly into your Pay Pal account, or you can request payment by check. However they charge a 5% commission on the total sales price, but that’s all. No other fee for setup or anything like that.

7. Shopit Shopit is a free Social Commerce Network that gives users the ability to buy, sell or trade any product or service. Simply add a free store to your Facebook and sell anything you like. Another easy way to make money on Facebook.

8. FlameTunes FT was founded in 2007 by an Iranian-American named Nima Khakpour. This app is more for the artists to sell their music. So, if you are an artist, FlameTunes enables you to sell your music on your Facebook. You can also use it to sell music on MySpace.

9. Lemonade Remember when you setup your first lemonade stand in your community? Well, this app allows you to use the same concept, combining commerce and community, and have a lemonade stand in a digital (Facebook) neighborhood. Basically you add what you want to sell to a lemonade stand, and put it on your Facebook. It’s free and easy.

10. eBay Who knew that was coming? Yep, you guessed it. Now you can have your eBay on Facebook. This application allows you to add eBay auction listings to your Profile. Sell things to your Facebook friends from crafts, jewelry to diary pages, undies and dinner dates or just whatever you’re selling on eBay! You also have the option to add a charity auction that you support, on your Facebook profile. I think it’s a very smart way to combine eBay and Facebook, and you don’t even need an eBay Account!

11. Lending Club It’s almost like prosper, where you land money to others and make money with the interest you make from the loan. Not to worry though, lending club has all the detail covered. So, it’s completely safe, and the whole legal and trust issues are taking cared by lending club. If you can use it safley, it can be a good way to make money with your Facebook.

MASTER CARD TO ADOPT MOBILE PAYMENTS

Credit card giant MasterCard is debuting a new study today, called the MasterCard Mobile Payments Readiness Index, which analyzed 34 countries and their readiness to use three types of mobile payments: person to person, mobile commerce and mobile payments at the point of sale. MasterCard actually developed a proprietary algorithm that takes publicly available data as well as MasterCard-owned data to rank countries on their potential to adopt mobile payments.

The study showed that while it is still early stages for mobile payments adoption, Singapore, Canada, the U.S., Kenya and South Korea are the most prepared markets to accept this technology. Additional finding include that young affluent consumers between the ages of 18 and 34 years old are the most willing to use mobile payments as they recognize the value of using mobile payments instead of cash or payment cards. While this demographic was predominantly male in most countries, women showed higher levels of interest in countries such as China, Egypt and the Philippines.

The study also revealed that nine of the 10 markets with the highest consumer scores are in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Of the three mobile payment types, more consumers had actually engaged in m-commerce in 71 percent of the countries surveyed.

In developing economies, consumers are typically drawn to mobile payments for access to the larger economy, both national and global, as well as to a regulated and secure economic infrastructure. Consumers in the developed world are drawn to the convenience of mobile phone payments, says MasterCard.

Partnerships and collaboration among financial institutions, telcos, governments, technology providers and others is also key to reaching critical mass, says MasterCard.

IMPROVING VIDEO RECORDING SKILLS

Recording video has become easier than ever with the growing number of smart phones and the recording function of digital still cameras. Follow these basic tips to help your recordings look good.

First, keep your lens clean. Finger marks and dust on the front of your camera can be distracting and sometimes blur your image.
Second, keep your camera still while recording. What may seem like small movements while you are holding the camera will look much larger when you watch the video.

Third, pay attention to the light. Lighting can be used to shape the emotion of the subject you are recording. When recording outside, it can be challenging during the middle of a sunny day because the primary source of light is directly above you.  Cloudy days produce very even light - and recording on clear evenings gives you warm light.

Fourth, give a sense of place. If you are recording a school graduation, remember to get some video of the front of the school ‚the school buildings and the families in the audience. This will really help put the graduation in context.

And Fifth, think about the composition, think about your subject, whatever that might be, a person, a car, a building and move them slightly to the left, to the right, top, or bottom. This is called the rule of thirds and can help you produce a balanced, dynamic image.

BASIC PHOTO EDITING TIPS

Almost everyone takes lots of pictures and posts some of them online. With a little more planning of shots and editing, these pictures can be much better.
Here are a few things I've found helpful. First, think about what you're trying to show when you take pictures. Group shots usually don't have a lot of impact. Try taking more close up pictures of people doing things. Also, think about whether a picture tells a story of its own. If you're taking a picture of a child, try squatting down and taking it at their level. To learn more about photography, visit photo.net for lots of in-depth guides. I also like browsing flickr.com to see the interesting shots other people have taken.

Once you've taken a bunch of pictures, you'll want to crop them, remove red-eye, and adjust exposure. My favorite tool for these things is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. You can download a tryout version from adobe.com. The price for buying it has recently dropped alot, so if you couldn't afford it before, take another look. Adobe Phototoshop Elements is a less expensive choice that also works well. If you want something that is simple and free, I like Paint.net. It will let you adjust color balances, crop and resize things as well as many other things.  When you're done, remember that if you're posting online, you may want to resize the picture to help it display more quickly.

Finally remember to use "save as" or work on a duplicate file so you don't destroy the original picture.

KEEPING ONLINE INFORMATION SAFE

Some tips on keeping your online financial and personal information safe.
Almost every part of our financial life and big part of our personal life is now easy to access online. Hopefully all of it is protected by passwords. However, if we haven't been clever about how we use our passwords, somebody could get access to all of it.

A big part of the securing your stuff is choosing a good password. I like passwords that are long and have letters, numbers and punctuation. To make it easy to remember, try a phrase like "My2boysliketojump!" with a number in the middle and an exclamation point at the end. It's easy to remember, hard to attack. Don't just use your child's name or a phone number for your password.

Ideally you should choose a different password for every web site you use. One way to make this easier is to use software like keepass or 1password to store your password collection.

You should at least use a unique password for your e-mail account and each banking site and change it regularly. This is critical, because many web sites use your e-mail address as the login ID. If such a site is hacked and your password revealed, unless your e-mail password is different, the attacker can log into your e-mail. From there, he can figure out other sites you use, and reset the password to take them over.
One last tip, any web site you log into should use a secure connection so that your information cannot be intercepted while it travels between your computer and the site. Most browsers indicate a secure site with a "lock" icon. Learn what that lock icon looks like and don't log into sites without it.

Tuunde chombo huru .
